How Bail Works in Nevada
No matter where you are in Nevada, bail works the same way. When a person is arrested on suspicion of a crime, her or she will be taken to jail for booking and holding. Many times, the person will be able to get out of jail on bail until the completion of his or her criminal trial. When a person is given the option to get out of jail on bail, he or she will need to provide the courts with the full amount of the bail in exchange for the release from jail.
What is the full amount of the bail? Bail amounts differ a great deal depending on the crime that the defendant has been accused of committing. Bail amounts are the same for each crime, though. For example, the bail amount for a DUI is the same in Las Vegas as it is in Reno. The major difference in the price of bail has to do with the individual circumstance of a defendant's arrest and criminal history.
Because many defendants cannot afford to pay the full amount of bail on their own, they usually need some financial assistance. Bail bonding agencies are in the business of providing defendants with financial assistance in exchange for a down payment of ten percent of the total cost of the bail.
How to bail bonding agencies work? A bail bonding agency gives the courts enough money to get the defendant out of jail on bail. This bail amount is refunded to the payee of the amount as soon as the defendant completes his or her criminal trial. However, if the defendant fails to completed the criminal trial, the bail bonding agency will not receive a refund of the bail amount.
Bail bonding agencies make their money when defendants pay their down payments for the cost of the bail. Also, when a defendant fails to appear in court, the agency may charge an additional fee or seize assets owned by the defendant, such as a car or a house.
How can you find the right bail bonding agency? Most bail bonding agencies charge the same amount of money as a down payment. Therefore, select the bail bonding agency based on their availability and reliability. Has the agency been in business for several years? Do they come recommended? Do they accept forms of payment that you are comfortable with?
By finding the right bail bonding agency, defendants are able to get out of jail while they await the completion of their trials. The bail amount is returned as long as the defendant completes all criminal trials for the crime that he or she has been accused of committing. |
